Application
A manufacturer of motors and transmissions for the industrial, commercial and consumer markets developed a Flow Test Kit for troubleshooting its automotive pumps. The kit tests for leaks by noting the actual flow and pressure compared to the pumps’ rated flow and pressure. An AW-Lake Bi-Directional Variable Area Flow Meter is used as a reference for actual flow of the pump compared to its rated flow to help identify leaks.
Challenge
As pumps have both forward and reverse options, flow and pressure testing is required in both directions.

Solution
Along with the AW-Lake Bi-Directional Flow Meter, the Flow Test Kit includes pressure gauges, a needle valve along with hoses and fittings. The test kit enables users to isolate the pump from the wheel motor to test for leaks to ensure satisfactory condition and use. The AW-Lake Bi-Directional Flow Meter offered a cost-effective solution for measuring flow of pumps in both directions.
AW-Lake also offers an “off the shelf” solution for testing hydraulic systems in our Hydraulic Test Analyzer. This product is offered in two versions: K Series: Flow and Pressure, and T Series: Flow, Pressure, and Temperature.
